All About Marjoram

What is it with culinary oils and their usefulness to
runners?

Basil, Lemongrass, Peppermint and now Marjoram. Learning how
to use herbs for your sport will have you rethinking what’s for dinner.

In marjoram’s case this herb is often the butt of jokes.

Reconsider this lowly herb. Marjoram (Oreganum Majorana) is often confused with Oregano because of their similarities but you wouldn’t want to get the oils mixed up.

Oregano, hot, always requires dilution, ideal for when your doctor says they can’t give you anything to help with whatever is going on inside or out.

Marjoram, milder with a sweet flavour. Known for being a symbol of joy and happiness, but equally able to support our bodies when we need it most. Research has been undertaken to see how else this plant can help.

Marjoram is a perfect oil to add to a soothing massage blend for targeting tired and stressed muscles. It’s a great alternative to Lemongrass when you have twitchy muscles that leave you in pain. 

Apply oil to desired area to recuperate after a tough workout or long day of activity.  You may feel relaxed after applying the oil to any areas of stress and tension .

While working on long, intense projects, apply Marjoram essential oil to the back of the neck to lessen feelings of stress. Marjarom oil contains calming properties that help relax emotions during stressful moments.

Applying Marjoram essential oil topically can help provide the calming feelings you need to get through difficult or strenuous tasks. 

To the Greeks and Romans, Marjoram was a symbol of happiness because of its soothing and calming properties.  

Rub a few drops of Marjoram on the bottom of your feet or the feet of your child to help them fall asleep at night.

When adding to cooking do so at the end, usually, one drop of Marjoram essential oil is equivalent to two tablespoons of dried Marjoram. 

The marjoram plant is an herbaceous perennial that is a member of the Lamiaceae family (mints).

This plant can grow to be 30 to 60cm in height and can spread an equal distance. This plant is busy with fragrant, ovate leaves that are gray-green in colour.

Tiny, tubular flowers that are white or pale pink bloom in clusters on this plant.  doTERRA Marjoram essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant. It is sourced from Egypt.
